BGLev is a symbolic digital token created on the Solana blockchain. Its purpose is to preserve the cultural and historical value of the Bulgarian Lev, a national currency that is being replaced by the Euro. BGLev is not intended to function as real money. Instead, it is designed to help people remember and honor the Lev in a modern, digital form. The project is non-political and aims to connect Bulgarian communities—both inside and outside the country—by offering them a way to celebrate national identity using blockchain technology.

Our Story
The Bulgarian Lev (ะปะฒ.) has been the national currency of Bulgaria for over 140 years, first introduced in 1881 following the country’s liberation from Ottoman rule. Over time, the Lev has undergone several revaluations and redesigns, often reflecting key moments in Bulgarian political and economic history. Since 1999, the Lev has been pegged to the Euro at a fixed exchange rate (1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN), and Bulgaria has been preparing to officially adopt the Euro as its national currency — a move expected to take place around 2026. While economically strategic, this shift marks the end of a symbol deeply ingrained in the national identity.
The BGLev project emerges as a digital tribute to that legacy. Rather than opposing the adoption of the Euro, it seeks to preserve the emotional and cultural significance of the Lev through blockchain technology. By creating a Solana-based token named BGLev, the project gives Bulgarians — both at home and abroad — a way to commemorate their monetary history in a modern, participatory, and decentralized format. It bridges the past and future by using emerging technology to protect something of shared historical value.
